the fashionable heart of the captial has been a source of the very best
traditional hospitality. Guests at the hotel, for business or pleasure

The
Ritz. Its name alone has long conjured up imagery of grand
entertainment, important society gatherings and sublime cuisine. The
magnificent hotel was born out of the work of César Ritz, the son of an
Alpine shepherd, who made his profession out of catering to the tastes
of European high society.
Ritz
devoted his life to defining the deluxe hotel business we know today.
When his career began, in 1866, the hotel industry was in its infancy.
He developed his craft, working in the company of some of the industry's
great pioneers, including the chef Auguste Escoffier.
By making
hotels a fashionable and acceptable part of society , César Ritz's
reputation was assured. A Ritz hotel syndicate was formed and the Ritz
in Paris opened in 1898, followed by the Ritz in London in 1906.
The
Ritz soon became the natural place for famous faces from Europe and
America, figures from the worlds of stage and screen, and for statesmen,
aristocrats, and Royalty to meet.
The
Ritz has remained as popular for its location, as its gracious interior.
It is perfectly situated within walking distance of the designer
boutiques and auction houses of Bond Street and Jermyn Street, the world
renowned private clubs of St James's and has sweeping views across Green
Park towards Buckingham Palace. All the hotel's public rooms extend off
the building's central gallery, creating a series of grand salons in
which to see and be seen.

rooms or suites at The Ritz are alike. Each has been individually
decorated and all offer levels of comfort synonymous with a world class
hotel. The Ritz's prime location means that many rooms also enjoy superb
views across London.
